Yes people can and do use religious faith to help cultivate money toward themselves, they did it back in CTR's time and they are doing it today.

you're an interesting bunch and i look forward to getting to know you better.. i started studying with the jw's when i was 16. i was dating my husband, 10yrs my senior, and he heard they had the truth.
i was in an abusive household, so i moved in with him, studied, got married at 17 and baptised at 18.. i believed in it hook, line and sinker for 22 yrs.

Unfortunately this high control group is not kind to marriages that aren't united in supporting this religion,

here are my thoughts.. it is pretty obvious that there was no global flood 4,000 years ago.

Most of the writings in the bible are imaginary metaphors trying to convey a certain message by the writers and speakers
themselves ( including JC ) revolving around their great and powerful god YAHWEH, you might consider that was their inspiration then.
And could you really blame them since human ignorance about the world they lived in and about themselves was extremely high.
Ignorance and fear does indeed inspire particularly when humans are lamenting on whose god is the greatest ares or theirs.
i looked over the aug. 1 public watchtower and noticed the same changes i observed previously.. plainly put, it appears that they have simply run out of things to say and so are just filling up printing space!.
they devote 4 full pages to a bible reading schedule that could have been easily condensed into a couple sentences.
they have the same large graphics and typeset that eats up printing area.
Couldn't help but wonder if they were going to take off to Canada because of perhaps all the pedophile cases against them in the US. I don't know how strict the laws are there, but maybe it would be harder to prosecute them if they are in a different country.
I personally doubt that would be the reason since Canada doesn't carry within itself the stronger US freedom of religion status, as a form of protection to cover
themselves with. Perhaps they are on the mends to totally change the organization , name and all to take attention off themselves and recreate a new organization
complete with new spiritual light.
Pedophile cases against religious organizations in Canada is just as strong as it is in the United States.
Its plausible that they could sell all of their assets in the States, which in total could be worth up to a billion dollars and
reestablish in a out of the way rural environment in another country like Canada and have millions left over after this has been accomplished.
Money is freedom and the WTS. has loads of it.
Men with power and money in their hands like that will work hard to make sure it stays with them......trust me.
